My Career Future SG, The Jr. Sous Chef serves as a “Third-in-command” of the kitchen: assist the Executive Chef, and Executive Sous Chef in supervising food quality, production, and costs.

The ability to quickly and authoritatively delegate tasks to kitchen personnel. Knowledge of all kitchen stations with a ready mentality to fill in for and/or assist cooks to ensure that the kitchen operates smoothly. Familiarity with administrative duties such as ordering inventory; training; scheduling; hiring & firing.

The Jr. Sous Chef will handle personal and private employee and company information and requires full confidentiality and discretion. This position requires a background security clearance. Should you be unable to obtain the required background clearance, it will not be possible for you to work in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps cooking stations stocked, especially before and during prime operation hours
  • Trains new kitchen employees and people with special needs in basic F&B skills
  • Manages food and product ordering by keeping detailed records and minimizing waste, plus works with existing systems to improve waste reduction and manage budgetary concerns
  • Supervises all food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and restaurant standards
  • Works with the head chef to maintain kitchen organization, staff ability, and training opportunities
  • Verifies that food storage units all meet standards and are consistently well-managed
  • Assists head chef with menu creation
  • Ensures the kitchen activities operate in a timely manner
  • Monitors and records inventory, and if necessary, orders new supplies
  • Creates schedule for kitchen staff

Skills & Requirements

  • Certificate in Culinary skills, or its equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in culinary.
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and a positive attitude towards fostering teamwork among associates in a support role.
  • Ability to lead, motivate a team of staff, adapt, embrace strong cultural diversity, and work with persons with disabilities (PWDs).
